Guest Post at Culinary Covers

cut cake

It's been almost a week, but I'm finally getting around to letting you know that I've written a guest post over at Culinary Covers. Run by Lori Lange (otherwise known as RecipeGirl), Culinary Covers is "a blog about investigating the cover recipes of cookbooks and magazines." When Lori put out a request on Twitter for people interested in guest writing, I jumped at the chance.

You might remember that I received David Lebovitz's latest cookbook Ready for Dessert My Best Recipes back in April, when it was first released. I poured over it the day it arrived, oohing and aahing over many of the recipes. As soon as Lori posted her request, I knew which recipe I wanted to make — the cover of Ready for Dessert.

I've written about the cake over at Culinary Covers, but wanted to share some of the in progress photos along with images of the finished cake — since the cover image is only partially frosted!

Enjoy...

  2. I saw the guest post, but was hungry for more. I wanted to see the final cake. It looks amazing. Just one question. On the slice on the plate, it looks like it's missing something, though I can't quite put my chocolate-smeared finger on it.

Whenever Amy asks me to bake a cake for her work, this is the one I always suggest, but we are always out of something- usually bananas, but then I realize too late that I have a bunch in the freezer.

  3. Frieda & Liz - Thanks!

    Jen - LOL!

Daniel - Good eye! I cut the cake for the crumb shot before I put the nuts on top - completely spaced it. And I was too lazy to take a proper shot after I realized my mistake. You definitely need to try this cake. All of the individual parts are delicious which makes the final cake delicious X 3. So good. Perfect use for those frozen bananas!

  4. You did such a nice job on Culinary Covers! I loved seeing the whole process. You got some beautiful shots. Clearly, you know what you're doing more than I do!! I need a Canon 40D refresher class. Thanks for guest posting. That post is still the most visited post on the site right now. Let me know if you ever see another cover you might like to do :)
